I used cross diagonal lines from the vertical midline to roughly located where the jaw corners would be. This line helps me locate the ears because I wanted her head to look a bit turned down relative to the picture plane. I quickly roughed in the general oval for the head, the vertical midline, and the line of the eyes. I knew doing details of costume would be very challenging and I’m more comfortable with faces, so I thought it’d be fun to do a close-up view of Merilwen with one catlike eye. I like silliness.Įllen plays Merilwen, an elf druid with the preferred form of a cat. I decided to do a little picture of Ellen Rose‘s character from Outside Xtra‘s D&D campaign, the OXventure. This is where I indicate the general design of the image and details. I strongly recommend the Frenden and KyleBrush brushes for Clip Studio, btw. Step 1: Bluelineįirst I sketch the idea out in a blue pencil brush. Resolution is great, this is a human-interfacing-with-device issue. However, they are no match for my tremor, so I don’t get into them here.Ī note: This problem with the Surface screen size has to do with being unable to rest my arm on it, not the resolution. If I didn’t have it, I couldn’t do any inking or line cleanup at all.Ĭlip Studio, also called Manga Studio for those who bought it before it was cool/translated, has onboard stabilizing options. It’s quite affordable and helpful for accessibility reasons.

All of y’all who use Photoshop and get this software will have access to a Photoshop plugin that starts up automatically. There are all kinds of options and stuff but most of the time I use the basic Pulled String.īecause I use Clip Studio, I have to hook it to the window when I start up the program. I use Lazy Nezumi to stabilize my strokes. Tip: Drawing from the wrist is a formula for cramps and not-great line quality. It’s quite easy for me to get hand spasms or end up with elbow pain since the screen is too small to use arm movement for stroke.

I use mouse stabilizing software to reduce the visible jankiness.īut on the smaller screen of my Surface Pro 6 (for those interested in hardware deets) the stabilizer isn’t always gonna cut it. So, I have intention tremor because of a medication I have to take.
