Once your scope is zero'd go ahead and LOCK DOWN your already snug set screw. Use the Allen wrench as your reference rather than relying on 1/4" index lines. 1/4" increments can be achieved without the inclusion of reference lines by using the width of the Allen wrench. When zeroing your scope hold the spanner and adjust the screw the width of your Allen wrench. We have found that besides increasing costs it would not facilitate any added function. Interested people have ask for reference lines to be engraved on this product. With this tool you can hold the elevation knob or windage knob steady while you use the Allen wrench to make fine adjustments. With this tool that is no longer an issue as this tool gives you leverage over the knobs when adjusting the Allen screw. Many times we have started zeroing scopes and forgot to snug up the set screw and chased our zero. When the zero is being achieved it allows for the set screw to remain snug but NOT locked down while adjusting the windage or elevation screw in or out. The tool is designed to fit the knobs loosely as to insure easy installation onto the knobs.
The same tool is used for the Elevation Turret and the Windage knob although they are different sizes. This tool allows the shooter to hold the windage knob or Elevation turret while making adjustments, it allows this without needing two separate tools. If you have a MST-100 or MST-150 this is a must have item in your drag bag/rifle case. This tool was developed from many years of experience using and repairing the UNERTL product. With that said, this item goes outside of the USMC spec and is a tool that was developed out of necessity without regard for historical accuracy.
